Fair Persuasion

v  Persuasion = the ability to use argument or discussion in attempting to change an individuals beliefs or actions.
o   Presenting information enabling others to see benefits of what is being offered.

In order to fairly get your ideas across, and have them accepted there are many things that must be considered. First off, the tone in which you use is very important, as it instils a sense of cooperation if done correctly. Also important is establishing the sort of context needed for the specific idea. For instance, determining a high-context culture, versus a low-context culture is very important to how you address the idea.
There are also some techniques that are helpful in getting your ideas across. These are as follows:

  • Establish credibility
  • Make a reasonable, precise request
  • Tie facts to benefits
  • Recognize the power of loss
  • Expect and overcome resistance
  • Share solutions and compromise

I will be addressing these in further detail in the coming days. In the meantime, check out this video about ethical persuasion.
